What is myofunctional therapy?

Myofunctional therapy is an exercise training program for muscles around the face, mouth and tongue. These exercises help children improve their speech articulation, eating, breathing, sleep, attention span, and regulation. Myofunctional therapy will be completed by Jill Marty, OTR/L. Jill is an occupational therapist who has trained through the Academy of Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy to bring this amazing therapeutic technique to the clinic.

If you answer yes to any of the following questions, your child may benefit from myofunctional therapy:

  1. Does your child have a diagnosed lip or tongue tie? Is this creating issues with eating or speech?

  1. Is your child frequently sick with respiratory issues, ear infections, reflux, stomach aches, headaches?

  2. Does your child have dental issues including frequent cavities, poor dental hygiene or needing other dental work (crowns)?

  3. Does your child demonstrate any issues with sleeping including transitioning to sleep, staying asleep, waking often or bedwetting?

  4. Does your child demonstrate oral habits (grinding teeth, thumb sucking, open mouth position) that you notice consistently ?

  5. Has your child has previous therapy and demonstrated limited progress (particularly feeding and speech therapy) ?

Myofunctional therapy is a therapeutic activity that can be performed by occupational and/or speech therapists trained in this approach, and is a billable service through most insurance companies. For a list of in-network insurance companies, click the link below.
